1974: World Patent Index launches
in full
This
follows years of negotiations with patent offices internationally and
the World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO).
Various governmental bodies want to run the show instead. There are
also commercial would-be rivals to see off.
But Monty and his company are unique in having by now, not just pipedreams, but years of hands-on experience
and data.
They have the backing also of a publishing empire,
Thomson
(nowadays Thomson Reuters), to whom he has sold a majority share of
Derwent.
Named after the London suburban house in which he
started part-time, Monty's company is now a
major player
internationally.
